Somalia, 10 November 2025 — A group of Somali opposition parties today announced formation of a new political alliance, the National Dignity Union, following series of high-level consultations on the country’s political, economic, and security situation.
In a joint declaration titled “Decision and Understanding,” the parties said their alliance was founded to “safeguard national unity, promote justice, ensure transparency, and revive public trust in state institutions.”
It brings together figures from multiple movements and political parties that have previously played key roles in Somalia's politics.
The alliance unanimously endorsed former Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon ‘Sa’id’ as their presidential candidate for next year's elections, describing him as a leader capable of guiding the country toward recovery and inclusivity.
It highlighted widespread concerns over “the erosion of national cohesion, economic stagnation, and the growing sense of public disillusionment” with governance in Somalia.
The declaration was signed by Abdi Farah Shirdon ‘Sa’id’ of the Nagaad Organization, Abdikarim Hussein Guled of the Sahan Party, Abdirasak Khalif Ahmed of the Unity Council, Abdi Aden Hosow of the Democratic and National Unity Party, Mohamed Abukar Islaw ‘Du’ale’ of the National Dignity Organization, Guled Salah Barre of the Justice and Democracy Council.
Others are Du’ale Adam Mohamed of the National Progress Forum, Farah Ali Shire of the Unity Party, Tabid Abdi Mohamed of the People’s Power Party, and Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir of the Future Council.
According to the statement, the formation of the National Dignity Union aims to protect Somalia’s unity and calls for a unified political direction to rebuild trust, expand opportunities, and strengthen state institutions.
The alliance’s founding meeting is scheduled to take place soon in Mogadishu.
