Somalia, 6 January 2026 The Somali Union of Scholars has called for a major protest tomorrow at Daljirka Dahsoon in Mogadishu to oppose Israel's actions, including its recognition of Somaliland and the visit of Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to Hargeisa.
Sheikh Yusuf Ali, one of the clerics, stated that it is the duty of every Somali to defend Islam: “Anyone who truly believes has a responsibility to defend their faith and country from the attack we are facing,” he said, referring to Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.
Sheikh Ali Wajis echoed the statement, urging both the clergy and the public to stand against Israeli interference: “Tomorrow, we are expected to support the religion of Allah and reject the oppression imposed by Israel,” he said.

Sheikh Mahamud Abdulbari also called on all Somali clerics to gather tomorrow morning to protest Israel’s interference. “We urge all Somali scholars to gather at Daljirka Dahsoon tomorrow morning to voice our collective disapproval of both the religious and political interference being made by Israel in our affairs,” he said.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad also condemned Israel’s actions, describing them as a blatant attack: “This is an audacious assault on us, and I call upon all Somali scholars to come together tomorrow to protest the division that Israel is attempting to impose on our country.”
The protest comes amid growing concerns over Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, with the scholars warning that Israel’s actions pose a threat to Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.
