Somalia, 25 October 2025 — A joint operation by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and its international partners killed three Al-Shabaab fighters in Mahas District, Hiran Region
NISA confirmed the raid targeted Al-Shabaab hideouts in the Kuukaayle area, eliminating three militants and destroying two operational vehicles the group had concealed: a Toyota Noah and a Toyota Land Cruiser pickup four-wheel drive vehicle, locally known as Cabdi-bile.
“Three terrorists were killed, and two vehicles — a Cabdi-bile and a Noah — that the militants had hidden in a bushy area were destroyed,” NISA said in a statement.

The latest operation follows a separate mission last Monday in the same Kuukaayle area, where Somali security forces killed seven Al-Shabaab fighters.
Hiiraan Region remains a key frontline in Somalia’s fight against Al-Shabaab, following repeated militant incursions in recently liberated areas earlier this year. The Somali government has stated that its ongoing campaign will rely more on targeted airstrikes to weaken the group’s operational and leadership capabilities.
