Somali Gov't announces an increase of Al-Shabaab defectors

Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia's Ministry of Information on Saturday announced that the number of Al-Shabaab defectors surrendering to the National Army at several fronts, have increased in recent, saying that they benefited from the President's Amnesty offer.

The Ministry said in a statement that 100 of the group militants including senior commanders laid down the weapons and surrendered to the Somali National Army forces based in areas under Hirshaballe, Galmudug, Jubaland and Southwest States in the past weeks.

"The Somali Government is committed to eliminating the terrorists. Those who don't make use of this chance, will be punished". said, adding that the Government welcomes the defectors who decided to leave from the group.
