Jowhar (Dawan Africa) – The Somali National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has officially confirmed on Friday that final preparations for its regional office in HirShabelle have been completed, with the formal inauguration expected in the coming days.
The announcement comes after an inspection visit to the facility by NIRA Director-General Abdiweli Ali Abdulle and HirShabelle’s Minister of Interior Abdirahman Dahir Gure. The two officials reviewed the operational readiness of the Jowhar-based bureau and commended the progress made in delivering a fully equipped regional office.
“This office is ready, and we are proud to say it will be operational within the next few days,” NIRA said in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring that every Somali citizen has access to national identification services.”
The HirShabelle bureau is part of NIRA’s broader national expansion strategy aimed at decentralizing access to biometric ID registration services. Additional offices are planned for Balcad, Beledweyne, and Buulobarde, as part of ongoing efforts to improve public service delivery, strengthen election systems, and enhance national security.
Officials also underscored the importance of regional cooperation and the critical role digital identity plays in building an inclusive and accountable state. NIRA’s initiative is jointly supported by federal and regional institutions as a foundational element in Somalia’s state-building and governance agenda.
