Algeria, 11 November 2025 — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday began an official visit to Algeria aimed at deepening cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit, President Mohamud is scheduled to meet with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and senior officials to discuss collaboration on across multiple sectors.
The two countries have seen a rapid revitalization of ties this year. In August 2025, Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali visited Algiers to inaugurate the Somali embassy and met with his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Ataf.
The visit resulted in agreements to establish ministerial coordination committees, expand scholarship opportunities for Somali students from 15 to 50 per year, and strengthen political consultations on regional and international issues.
This marks President Mohamud’s first official visit to Algeria. He is accompanied by key Somali ministers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Defense Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, the Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, and Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resurces Dahir Shire Mohamed.
