Ethiopia, 17 September 2025 – The Somali Regional State has officially launched an elaborate programme aimed at improving livelihoods through community development programmes.
The programme, Humanitarian Development Nexus, was launched on Tuesday in Jigjiga.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister in the Office of the Regional State’s President, Hussein Hashi Qasim; Minister of Planning, Omar Farooq Haji Warfaa; European Union Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sofie From-Emmesberger, and envoys from various European countries.
The implementation of the project will be coordinated by the state's planning office and supported by the European Union.
Speaking at the event, Minister Qasim stated that the project will first be implemented in the Fafan region, focusing on community development and ensuring government institutions provide quality services to the residents.
Minister Warfaa said up to 70 organizations will participate in the project, reflecting broad cooperation aimed at making a positive impact on communities.
“The goal of this initiative is to align projects related to peace, development, and humanitarian aid, and it represents programs implemented by the government” he added.
The program is part of the regional state’s efforts to achieve sustainable development, enhance public services, and strengthen collaboration between government institutions and development partners.
