Somalia, 12 September 2025 – The Somali National Army (SNA) together with local forces today killed more than 90 Al-Shabaab fighters who attempted to over run military bases in Galgadud.
The fierce battle that lasted more than seven hours was concentrated in El Dher, a strategic district in Galgadud.
Speaking at a press briefing, this afternoon, in Mogadishu, Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, said government troops are still pursuing fleeing Al Shabab fighters 20 kilometres north of the district.
“At this hour, the bodies of militant are being collected. Our forces are pursuing the fleeing remnants carrying corpses and those wounded, up to 20 kilometres north of El Dher,” the minister told journalists.
He stated that more than 30 bodies had been collected, while government intelligence confirmed the group carried away at least 100 casualties, both dead and wounded.
The government estimates more than 90 militants were killed and at least 50 wounded in the foiled attack.
Minister Fiqi also confirmed that two senior Al-Shabaab commanders – one named Da’dulah and another Sabir – were killed by Somali Security Forces.
“We have confirmed that the two men leading the Khawarij militia were also killed in the area, ” he said.
Al Shabab launched an assault on El Dher early in the morning and claimed they had seized the district.
