Nairobi, 23 October 2025 — Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting fair, safe, and productive labour mobility during the three-day Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Ministerial Conference on Labour, Employment, and Migration held in Nairobi.
The Somali delegation, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Somali Chamber of Commerce, labour unions, and the Somali Embassy in Nairobi, underscored the country’s dedication to strengthening regional cooperation for decent work, workers’ rights protection, and inclusive development.

Held under the theme “Enhancing Labour Migration Governance and Labour Mobility for Regional Development in the IGAD Region,” the conference brought together ministers and experts from member states to discuss harmonizing labour migration policies, recognizing skills across borders, and safeguarding migrant workers’ welfare.
Speaking at the event, Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, emphasized the country’s firm stance on human rights and dignified employment.
