Somalia, 3 January 2025 - The Permanent Representative of Somalia to the United Nations, Abukar Dahir Osman, has strongly opposed Israel's recognition of Somaliland, describing it as a calculated effort to divert global attention from the ongoing crisis in Palestine.
Speaking on Friday night during Somalia's assumption of the chairmanship of the United Nations Security Council, Ambassador Osman stated that Israel's action was a deliberate attempt to distract the international community, preventing them from focusing on the events unfolding in Palestine under Israeli occupation.
"We believe that this was an attempt to shift attention from what the occupying forces are doing in the occupied land of Palestine," said Ambassador Osman. "The idea of recognizing part of Somalia was a calculated effort by the Israeli occupying forces to divert the world’s attention from Palestine."

The Ambassador also expressed his gratitude to the members of the UN Security Council who showed support for Somalia's position on the matter, emphasizing Somalia’s firm commitment to addressing the Palestine issue.
Somalia further insisted that Israel's recognition of Somaliland was part of a broader political strategy aimed at undermining peace and stability efforts in the region and globally.
