Somalia, 14 November 2025 — Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education has announced plans to hire the remaining 4,000 teachers needed to fulfill the government’s pledge to employ 10,000 educators.
According to an official statement published on the ministry’s Facebook page on Thursday, 6,000 teachers have already been recruited in previous phases, with the remaining 4,000 set to join soon.
“The remaining teachers will be recruited shortly to complete this important commitment aimed at strengthening our national education system,” the ministry said.

The previous hires were carried out in two phases: the first in 2023, which brought 3,000 teachers on board, followed by a second phase in 2024, adding another 3,000.
The teachers come from the Banadir region and some federal member states and have undergone competitive examinations and a three-month training program before starting their duties.
The initiative comes ahead of Somali Teachers’ Day on 21 November, which celebrates the critical role of teachers in national development.
