Somalia, 9 October 2025 — The Somali Federal Cabinet today has approved three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening education and research.
The agreements, submitted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education, formalize cooperation with Uganda on general education, Qatar on higher education, and Algeria on higher education and research.
The agreement with Uganda was signed yesterday in Kampala by the Somali Minister of Education, marking a formal step in bilateral collaboration.
The weekly cabinet meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashiid Haji Abdi, also included briefings from the Ministries of Interior and Defence on national security and ongoing efforts to counter extremist threats.
Officials said the agreements are part of Somalia’s ongoing efforts to expand international education partnerships, support research, and develop higher learning institutions.
