Somalia, 20 December, 2025 The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced that ballot boxes have been deployed to 523 polling centers across Mogadishu’s 16 districts in readiness for the Banadir local council elections scheduled for 25 December.
The announcement was made during a meeting with political parties contesting the elections to ensure the vote is conducted transparently, peacefully, and in full compliance with Somalia’s electoral laws and regulations.
Meanwhile, the Commission urged citizens in the Banadir Region to expedite the collection of voting cards in order to participate in the elections.
In an official notice, the Commission said voter cards collection would continue from Monday, 22 December ahead of the Thursday elections.

The Commission warned that no voter will be allowed to vote without a ballot card, calling on residents to ensure they obtain the required document.
It also noted that a citizen service hotline (558) has been set up to respond to public inquiries related to ballot card collection.
