Somaliland, 17 September 2025 – Somaliland has signed a $70 million agreement with International Maharat Investment Company to rebuild Egal International Airport in Hargeisa.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday at the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) by the Minister of Civil Aviation and Airports Development Fuaad Ahmed Nuux on behalf of the Somaliland government.
In a statement, the ministry said: “This project will be the largest investment ever made in Somaliland’s aviation infrastructure, and the second-largest foreign investment after DP World.”
The construction, the ministry added, is scheduled to begin within six months, with the project focusing on expanding passenger capacity, modernizing facilities, and aligning the airport with international standards.
Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but is not internationally recognized, has been seeking foreign investment in key infrastructure sectors including aviation and ports.
