Somaliland, 13 September 2025 – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Cirro’, has announced a multi-million-dollar investment project to tackle the effects of drought on livelihoods.
The six-million-dollar Qoolcaday Development Project, in Salaxley District, will establish a research and training centre for animal care, improve animal feed production and enhance access to water for farming and domestic use.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Friday, the President said the project will help mitigate the negative effects of climate change and improve livelihoods in Salaxley and the rest of the region.
"This is the biggest project ever undertaken in Salaxley" President Cirro said.
Apart from improving livestock production, the project is expected to create employment opportunities for at least 500 people.
To ensure local communities fully benefit, the President stressed that no individual or private entity will have exclusive control over the project.
Given that most farming and pastoral communities remain vulnerable to climate change, the Qoolcaday Development Project is expected to cushion them from its negative effects.
