Somaliland, 5 November 2025 — The Somaliland Police Force has intercepted four kilograms of cannabis concealed within food items being transported to to the capital, Hargeisa.
The drugs were confiscated during an operation conducted by officers at the Tog-Wajaale central police station.
Officials who attended the public display of the seized narcotics said the operation took place on 3 November and that the evidence was presented at the Wajaale district police headquarters.
According to police commanders, the cannabis — totaling four kilograms — was hidden inside food supplies and cosmetic products in an apparent attempt to bypass security checkpoints. The narcotics had been smuggled from Ethiopia and were being transported toward Hargeisa.

Tog-Wajaale Police Station Commander, Abdirisak Adan Farah, stated that the drugs were intended for delivery to the capital, but police tracked the operation and successfully seized the shipment after it was disguised among food items meant for hospitality purposes.
“The narcotics were hidden inside food to harm our youth. The Somaliland police are fully prepared to take firm action against anything that threatens the security and stability of our society,” Commander Abdirisak Farah said.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody at the Wajaale Central Station and will be brought before the court. Further investigations are underway to identify other members of the drug trafficking network.
Wajaale is located in northwestern Somaliland, approximately 100 kilometers from Hargeisa, and borders Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State.
