Somalia, 13 November 2025 — The Central Bank of Somaliland has clarified that the e-visa service recently introduced by the Federal Government of Somalia has no connection to Somaliland’s banking system, reaffirming that Premier Bank Somaliland plays no role in the project.
In a press release on Thursday, the Bank said the e-visa agreement ‘was concluded in Somalia’ and that ‘Premier Bank Somaliland has no involvement and operates strictly under Somaliland’s financial laws and regulations.
The clarification comes amid growing public debate and social media claims regarding the structure of the e-visa payment system and whether it links to financial institutions in Somaliland.
The Central Bank urged the public to avoid confusion between the financial systems of Somalia and Somaliland, noting that Somaliland’s regulatory framework remains entirely independent and is governed by its own monetary laws.

The institution also stressed that all banks operating in Somaliland must adhere to local financial regulations and are not connected to financial arrangements made by the Federal Government of Somalia.
The Bank called on citizens and media outlets to verify information before sharing online claims that may undermine confidence in the country’s financial stability.
