Burao (Dawan Africa) – President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro,” on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for a modern multi-specialty hospital in Burao, in what officials describe as a landmark project for healthcare in the Somali region.
The new hospital, financed by the United Arab Emirates and set to be named after UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is expected to become the largest and most advanced medical facility in Somaliland. Officials say it will provide a wide range of specialized services, equipped with modern technology and expertise, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.
“The hospital being inaugurated today in Burao will be the largest healthcare project built in Somaliland since 1960,” President Irro said during the ceremony.
He emphasized that the hospital will ease long-standing challenges in accessing advanced healthcare and highlighted its expected role in supporting both social and economic development in the region. He also noted that the project underscores his administration’s broader agenda to improve essential services and infrastructure.
