Berbera (Dawan Africa) – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has pledged that his administration will secure international recognition for Somaliland within his term in office.
Speaking in Berbera late Monday while addressing traditional leaders, President Irro said Somaliland had made major strides in its decades-long pursuit of recognition but emphasized that his government is determined to finalize the effort.
“During my mandate, there will come a day when Somaliland is officially recognized, and we will gather here to celebrate that moment,” Irro declared.
Irro, who was elected in late 2024, will serve a five-year mandate under the Somaliland Constitution.
Somaliland unilaterally declared independence from Somalia in 1991 and has since pursued international recognition. However, it has yet to obtain formal recognition.
