Somaliland, 5 November 2025 – The Secretary General of Kulmiye Party, Faysal Abdirahman Madar, has accused the ruling Waddani Party of planning to delay the upcoming House of Representatives and Local Council elections by rejecting proposed agreements on the election process.
Faysal said the three political parties, Kulmiye, Waddani and KAAH, had previously agreed with recommendations of a technical committee on voter registration and other election-related matters but the ruling party later withdrew from the pact.
“Some parties stood by their commitments and showed a clear position. Waddani initially agreed with us, but then changed their stance,” Faysal said.
He added that in August, meetings took place between Kulmiye, KAAH, and President Abdirahman Irro to resolve election-related issues, including voter registration, claiming that the President apologized over reports that government ministers had interfered with the work of the Election Commission.
Waddani has previously accused Kulmiye of attempting to delay the elections scheduled for next year.
However, Madar has denied the allegation, insisting that Kulmiye has consistently supported holding the elections on time.
Somaliland’s House of Representatives and Local Council elections are held every five years. The last vote took place in May 2021, and the next election is expected in May next year.
