Kenya, 25 November 2025 - Late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga's sister, Beryl Achieng, is dead, the family has confirmed.
Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga said on Tuesday that they have accepted, the will of God.

Beryl was mother to Ami Auma, Chizi and Taurai.
She was daughter to the first Vice President of Kenya Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga.
Ruth, through a Facebook post has given a family hierarchy as she explained the Beryl was “sister to Senator Oburu Oginga, Rt Hon Raila Odinga, Akinyi Wenwa amongst others.”
She was a sister-in-law to Dr Anne Oburu, Dr Canon Ida Odinga, hon Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu, the Kisumu Woman Rep added in her tribute.
Dr Oburu Oginga, who is Raila’s elder brother said, “It is with heavy hearts, yet in humble acceptance of God’s will, that we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga, my sister.”
Other who send tributes are Silas Jakakimba, Prof Alfred Omenya, Philip Etale, and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko among other prominent figures.
Mr Jakakimba recalled how a few days ago Ruth informed him that Beryl wasn't in very good shape.
“We prayed about it. I take this earliest opportunity to convey my Heartfelt Condolences to The Odinga Family,” he shared in a post on X.

He hoped everyone who knew Beryl will cherish the beautiful memories of the times shared.
Prof Omenya prayed that God will cover the Odinga family with His abundant grace during these difficult times of mourning.
“It was Raila, and before that settles, Beryl Achieng Odinga follows,” Prof Amenya posted.
Mr Etale who is the Director of Communications for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), said, “Rest well Aunty Beryl Odinga. This is heavy to the Odinga family.”
Beryl breathed her last while she was receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
She has been in and out of hospital for quite some time.
Beryl made notable contributions to public service in Kenya and the region. She broke barriers as the first Black Town Clerk of Mutare, Zimbabwe’s third-largest city.
In 2020, she was appointed Chairperson of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC).
Former Nairobi Governor said she served diligently during her tenure as the chairperson Nairobi city water and sewerage company.
