Somalia, 25 December 2025 The British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, has expressed his support for the peaceful conduct of the Banadir council elections which took place on Thursday.
Ambassador King praised the successful and orderly manner in which the elections were conducted, reaffirming the UK’s continued support for Somalia’s democratic aspirations.
"The UK welcomes the peaceful conduct of the local elections in Mogadishu, and once again reaffirms its support for Somalia's democratic journey," he said in a congratulatory message.

He further added that all political actors in the country should engage with civil society and work together to reach consensus on the political future.
Ambassador King emphasized that the UK’s commitment to peaceful elections and democratic processes is crucial for Somalia as it moves towards building a more stable and resilient future.
Vote counting has been concluded and the Electoral Commission is expected to announce the results soon.
