Kenya, 21 December 2025 - Inmates at Vihiga County’s Mbale Prison are all smiles after Governor Wilber Ottichilo paid a special visit to the facility, bringing with him a generous donation of foodstuffs.
The gifts, which included cooking oil, maize and wheat flour, rice, sugar, and milk, were aimed at ensuring the prisoners could celebrate despite their confinement.
Governor Ottichilo described the gesture as a demonstration of love, compassion, and social responsibility.
In his remarks, he emphasised the spiritual significance of sharing, urging Kenyans to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate.
“As 2025 comes to an end, it is important for people show compassion and love to one other,” he said, appealing to those financially able to contribute to the well-being of the vulnerable.
The governor also highlighted the importance of peace, unity, and harmony.

He pledged to partner with the National Government to ensure infrastructural improvements in correctional facilities, reinforcing the idea that caring for all members of society, including inmates, is part of the nation’s moral responsibility.
