Somalia, 2 December 2025 - Somaliland's Minister of Aviation and Airport Development, Fu'ad Ahmed Nuh, has accused former Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi of being responsible for the shooting incident that occurred yesterday morning at Hargeisa Airport.
The minister stated that the incident occurred due to the failure by the former president's team to inform the authorities about his travel plans, which would have allowed for proper security arrangements.
The security detail of the former president, who was traveling to the United Arab Emirates, was involved in a dispute with airport security officers, which escalated into a shooting.
However, the minister did not explain the cause of the dispute. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the shocking incident.
To prevent such incidents occurring in the future, the Minister said protocols regarding domestic and overseas travel for the president and former presidents would be strictly adhered to, but emphasized that security officials must be notified in good time.

“There has never been a dispute or problem at Hargeisa Airport regarding the travel of former presidents and leaders of Somaliland, as long as they are alive. I expect the team managing President Muuse’s travels to arrange his trips properly and avoid any political campaigning,” the minister noted.
According to minister it the second time that Muse Bihi’s security detail are involved in such an incident since President Abdirahman Abdillahi ‘Irro’ assumed power.
However, a statement released on the Facebook page of the Kulmiye Party blamed the airport security officers for the incident, stating that the shooting involving the former president was unacceptable.
Muse Bihi finally traveled to the United Arab Emirates after a meeting with the Minister Nuh, where they discussed the events that transpired at the airport.
