Djibouti, 27 December 2025 The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has reiterated its firm commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Federal Republic of Somalia, following announcements regarding the recognition of Somaliland by State of Israel.
In a statement issued on Friday, the IGAD Secretariat stressed that Somalia remains a sovereign IGAD member state whose unity and territorial integrity are fully recognized under international law.
The Secretariat said that any unilateral recognition runs counter to the Charter of the United Nations, the Constitutive Act of the African Union, and the Agreement establishing IGAD.

IGAD called on international partners and stakeholders to uphold international law and to support dialogue and political processes that promote peace, stability, and cooperation in the Horn of Africa.
The regional bloc also reaffirmed its solidarity with the Government and people of Somalia, pledging continued support for inclusive political processes and regional cooperation aimed at achieving lasting peace, stability, and prosperity across Somalia and the wider IGAD region.
