Kenya, November 17 2025- Kenyans woke up Monday to a digital shock after several major government websites were found offline or defaced in what appears to be a coordinated cyberattack.
By midday, the websites of key ministries including Interior, Health, Education, Water, and Labour were either inaccessible or displaying altered content and error messages. The disruption has sparked widespread concern among citizens and cybersecurity experts over the security of sensitive public data hosted on these platforms.
Despite the scale of the outage, the government had issued no official statement as of Monday afternoon. The silence has heightened public anxiety, with many Kenyans taking to social media to demand transparency and immediate action.
“I rely on the Ministry of Health website for updates on medical services. It’s worrying that such crucial platforms can be compromised so easily,” said a Nairobi resident. Some defaced sites displayed messages attributed to the attackers, including: “Access denied by PCP,” “We will rise again,” and several explicitly supremacist slogans. Cybersecurity analysts warn that the incident could have serious implications.

The identity of the attackers remains unknown, and it is not yet clear whether any data was accessed or altered. However, analysts note that the simultaneous defacement of multiple government platforms suggests a deliberate attempt to undermine public confidence in state digital services.
Kenya has experienced a growing number of cyber threats in recent years, a trend driven by the rapid digitization of public services without corresponding investments in cybersecurity.
As the country waits for an official response, key questions remain: Who is behind the attack? Was any data compromised? And what measures will be taken to prevent future breaches.
