Ethiopia , 16 December 2026 Pakistan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Atif Sharif, has praised Ethiopia’s pivotal role in promoting stability and regional integration in the Horn of Africa, describing the country as a cornerstone of peace, security, and development in the region.
Speaking to local media, Ambassador Sharif said Ethiopia’s efforts in the fields of energy, infrastructure, trade, and peacebuilding have significantly contributed to regional stability. He highlighted Addis Ababa’s role in supporting Somalia, advancing peace agreements, exporting electricity to neighboring countries, and developing cross-border road and connectivity projects.
He noted that these initiatives strengthen continental integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as well as broader transport, aviation, and energy frameworks. The Ambassador also commended Ethiopia’s effective use of its water resources to generate power, support industrial growth, and deepen regional cooperation.

On bilateral relations, Sharif pointed to the steady expansion of cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan in trade, defence, and education. He cited the launch of direct flights, increased exchange of official delegations, and growing Pakistani investments in Ethiopia’s textile, steel, and pharmaceutical sectors.
He further highlighted strengthening defence, educational, and cultural cooperation, alongside coordination in countering extremism and sharing development expertise among countries of the Global South.
Ambassador Sharif concluded by affirming Pakistan’s aspiration to elevate relations with Ethiopia into a comprehensive strategic partnership that would further strengthen links between the Horn of Africa and South Asia.
