Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-A high-level delegation led by the Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, left the country on Monday for an official trip to Doha, the capital of Qatar.
A statement from the office of the Prime Minister stated that the delegation will hold discussions with Qatari leaders on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Prime Minister Hamza will hold various meetings with the leaders of Qatar during his stay, and they will discuss the strengthening of the existing relationships and cooperations between the two countries,” reads the statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
They will also meet Qatari businessmen to discuss investment opportunities in Somalia, as well as signing several agreements between the two countries.
In May this year, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, visited the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to discuss and foster the relationship between the two countries.
The government of Qatar successfully mediated the restoration of relations between Somalia and Kenya in May 2021, which had been strained at that time.
The government of Qatar plays a major role in the reconstruction of the government of Somalia, particularly in economic infrastructure development, security, and humanitarian issues.
The Prime Minister’s delegation includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abshir Omar Jama Huruuse, Minister of Finance Bihi Iman Egeh, Minister of Internal Security Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Doodishe, Minister of Education, Heritage, and Higher Education Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, and other officials.
