Somalia– January 24, 2026 Somalia's ipposition alliance, Somali Future Council, has announced it will take part in the upcoming national dialogue conference in Mogadishu, following an invitation from the Federal Government, saying the move is intended to avert a constitutional vacuum and reach a comprehensive national solution that safeguards Somalia’s statehood and territorial unity.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Council said its decision followed extensive consultations that took into account the scale of the political, security, and humanitarian challenges facing the country, particularly as the constitutional mandates of state institutions near expiration.
The Council stressed that the success of the national dialogue depends on creating a political environment based on trust and good faith, calling on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to take concrete steps to ensure that the talks are productive and meaningful.
In this context, the Council emphasized the need for a complete halt to any amendments to the 2012 Provisional Federal Constitution, describing this as a key confidence-building measure and a prerequisite for safeguarding the integrity of the political process.

It also urged that the dialogue agenda focus on the country’s most urgent priorities, foremost among them strengthening security and combating terrorist groups, particularly Al-Shabaab and ISIS, as well as reaching a broad national agreement on the electoral framework under which elections for Federal Government institutions will be conducted.
According to the statement, the dialogue should also address national unity and social cohesion, in addition to the severe drought affecting large parts of Somalia and worsening humanitarian conditions.
The Council said it has tasked its technical committee, chaired by MP Abdullahi Abukar Haji (Abdullahi Arab), with overseeing all technical preparations related to its participation in the dialogue process.
The Somali Future Council’s position comes amid heightened political tensions and growing pressure on Somali leaders to reach a national consensus that would prevent the country from sliding into constitutional and political instability.
