Somalia, 24 January 2026 - Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has returned to Hargeisa following his unannounced trip to Davos, Switzerland, where held talks with key leaders including Israel's President Isaac Herzog.
The President’s departure to Switzerland was not publicly disclosed beforehand, a move that sparked intense discussion on social media after Irro shared a limited number of photos that did not clearly reveal his location or official agenda on 21 January.
The secrecy surrounding the trip became a widely debated issue, with analysts and social media users questioning why the President’s travel had been concealed.

While in Davos, Irro held a meeting with the Israeli President a development that triggered mixed reactions inside Somaliland, with some expressing support and others voicing criticism. During his stay, the President also stated that Somaliland supports the Abraham Accords, which he said is based on dialogue and mutual understanding.
Upon his return, today. Irro received a formal welcome in Hargeisa, markedly different from the secrecy that surrounded his departure. Senior officials, including the Vice President of Somaliland, were among those who took part in welcoming him back.
