Somalia, January 24, 2026 Somalia’s powerful decision-making forum, the National Consultative Council (NCC), on Saturday welcomed the acceptance of the Somali Future Council to participate in the federal government-backed National Consultative Forum scheduled for 1st February.
The announcement was made after a virtual meeting of the NCC chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, his deputy, and leaders of Somalia’s federal member states.
In a statement, the council said the endorsement of the forum marked an important step toward strengthening national dialogue and coordination between the federal government and regional administrations.

The NCC also agreed to accelerate local council elections across the country, citing the successful completion of the Banadir regional council elections as a key milestone and a model for other federal member states.
In addition, the council reaffirmed its support for the federal government’s constitutional mandate to protect Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity, praised recent gains by Somali security forces against Islamist militants, and called for urgent humanitarian assistance to address the ongoing drought.
The council thanked the United Nations, the African Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and other international partners for their continued support of Somalia’s sovereignty, stability and political processes.
