Somaliland, 21 October 2025 — Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi ‘Irro’ is scheduled to visit Erigavo today to attend a Peace Forum bringing together clans from the Sanaag region.
The visit, confirmed on Monday, by Somaliland Television comes shortly after the arrival of the Military Chief, Nim’an Yusuf Osman, in Erigavo to assess the security situation ahead of the event.
The forum, seeks to reconcile local clans that have previously been engaged in violent clashes.
In preparation, Somaliland’s Police Commissioner, Abdirahman Abdillahi Hassan, announced a temporary curfew on vehicle movement in Erigavo. The curfew, effective from 6:00 pm on Monday, prohibits vehicles from operating in the city without prior authorization from the regional governor.
Erigavo has faced multiple rounds of violence, resulting in large-scale displacement. The United Nations reported that the latest round of clashes forced nearly 43,000 people to flee the city, underscoring the urgency of the peace process.
