Somalia, 21 January 2026 Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Irro’ secretive trip to Europe has sparked curiosity with the destination and purpose still unclear.
Today, President Irro shared Facebook pictures showing him in winter gear hinting at a cold European locale. Though Somaliland presidency is yet to issue a statement about the trip, speculation point to Switzerland and the World Economic Forum.
“To my people of the Republic of Somaliland, wherever they are, I send greetings & congratulations, wishing them goodness, peace, and prosperity,” Irro wrote on his Facebook page.

Unconfirmed reports state that Irro is expected to use the high profile meeting in Davos to lobby world leaders to recognize Somaliland's independence.
The self-governing region, which has been seeking international recognition for over 30 years, achieved a significant milestone last year when Israel officially recognized it following a phone call between President Cirro and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who invited him to visit Tel Aviv.
The Federal Government of Somalia and its key partners hav e strongly condemned Israel’s actions expressing concerns over its potential impact on the region’s stability.
