Switzerland, 24 January 2026 – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro said on Thursday that his self-declared republic seeks to participate in the Abraham Accords, a U.S.-led peace initiative originally brokered by President Donald Trump.
Speaking at a sideline event during the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Irro emphasized that Somaliland’s policy is anchored in stability and peace. “This new initiative, led by President Trump, is based on the principle of working towards peace. We welcome the effort and support dialogue, social integration, and regional cooperation,” he said.
President Irro highlighted that Israel has officially recognized Somaliland, a rare instance of diplomatic recognition that could strengthen the territory’s case for participating in regional peace processes.

“Israel has recognized Somaliland. Therefore, we should be part of the peace process initiated by President Trump, which is the Abraham Accords,” Irro said.
The Abraham Accords, brokered in 2020, initially normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. While largely focused on the Middle East, the initiative is increasingly seen as a platform for broader regional cooperation.
