Ethiopia, 17 November 2025 — A group of young Somali Region investors — comprising diaspora members and local entrepreneurs — have officially opened the Life Care Hospital in Jigjiga, a privately funded medical facility built at a cost exceeding 400 million birr (approximately $2.58 million).The new hospital, which has already created 70 jobs, is part of ongoing efforts to expand healthcare services across the region. Investors said they were motivated by emerging economic opportunities and the growing demand for improved social services.The inauguration ceremony on Sunday was attended by Finance Bureau Commissioner Dayib Ahmednur, Deputy Health Commissioner Mohamed Ayanle, Deputy Commissioner for Lowlands Development Ali Badal, and Jigjiga Deputy Mayor Khadar Budul, alongside community members and local leaders.Regional officials said the administration and the ruling party are prioritising community-driven investments that strengthen essential services, particularly healthcare, with the aim of improving access to quality and modern medical care.Deputy Health Commissioner Mohamed Ayanle underscored the importance of expanding healthcare capacity in the region.“This region has been a priority for improving basic services, especially healthcare. We expect the community to benefit significantly from this new facility,” he said.Life Care Hospital is expected to play a significant role in improving healthcare delivery in Jigjiga and the wider Somali Region, offering modern medical services and contributing to the strengthening of regional health infrastructure.
