28 December 2025 - Baitulmaal Kenya on Saturday donated essential medical equipment to Wajir County Referral Hospital to improve maternal and newborn care during safe deliveries.
The donation, handed over on Saturday evening, included five delivery beds, five baby cots, an electric suction machine, and an examination light.
These items are expected to strengthen the facility’s capacity to handle pregnancies and childbirth more effectively.
Baitulmaal was supported by the Gates Foundation and Every Pregnancy.

Baitulmaal Kenya Communications Officer Issadin Hajji said the assistance came when it was needed the most.
"These are essential services that that the maternity needed most and it will go a long way in boosting this department," Mr Hajji said.
Speaking to the press after the handover, County officials, acting on behalf of Wajir County Executive Committee Member for Health, acknowledged the timely support.
They noted that Wajir County is among the counties in Kenya with a high burden of maternal mortality, and the equipment will go a long way in helping the hospital deliver and adequately handle pregnant mothers.

In addition to the equipment, Baitulmaal conducted a five-day training programme for medical staff, particularly nurses, to enhance their skills and enable them to perform their duties more efficiently.
“We have also done a five-day training for medical staff especially the nurses and this will go a long way in boosting capacity of this medical staff so that they carry out their duties efficiently," Hajji added.
The organisation has been at the forefront of supporting the local community across various sectors, including health, education, and water provision.
This latest initiative reflects Baitulmaal’s continued commitment to addressing critical health challenges and ensuring that essential medical services reach those most in need, particularly in underserved regions.

Maternal mortality remains a significant concern in parts of Kenya, with rural and arid counties such as Wajir often facing shortages of specialised equipment and trained personnel.
Donations like these are seen as vital in bridging gaps in public health infrastructure.
Baitulmaal official said the organisation has been in Wajir community for quite some time with the assistance being pumped in the health sector, education sector, and water sector.
