Ethiopia, 21 January 2026 Ethiopian Airlines has announced an order for nine new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, scheduled for delivery between 2031 and 2033. The move is part of a strategic plan to support international expansion and modernize the airline’s fleet.
The Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Mesfin Tasew, said the deal will enhance the airline’s capacity to meet rising demand for air travel and expand its global route network, which currently serves around 145 international destinations. He stressed that investing in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft reflects the company’s long-term vision for sustainable aviation and improved passenger experience.
The new order builds on a previous commitment announced at the Dubai Airshow, where the airline agreed to purchase 11 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This brings Ethiopian Airlines’ total outstanding Boeing orders to 20 aircraft, including the 737 MAX, 777X, and 787 Dreamliner models.
