Somalia, 25 December 2025 Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, describing it as a complete violation of Somalia’s territorial integrity and a breach of international laws and norms.
Farmaajo emphasized that Israel is obligated to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Somalia, adding that recognizing any part of the country undermines accepted international legal frameworks.
“Recognizing a part of Somalia is a complete breach of international law. Somaliland is an integral part of Somalia. Our people are firmly united in defending our sovereignty,” Farmaajo wrote on his social media platform.

His remarks came after Israel officially announced the recognition Somalilandas an independent state, sparking varied reactions internationally. His statement, however, reinforced Somalia’s stance on protecting its territorial integrity.
Farmaajo’s condemnation highlights the increasing tensions surrounding the sovereignty dispute between Somalia and Israel.
