9 December 2025 - Manchester United delivered a statement performance on Monday night, thumping a helpless Wolverhampton Wanderers 4–1 at Molineux to climb into sixth place in the Premier League standings. The victory bettered United’s chances of a top-four push but also extended Wolves’ miserable run at the bottom of the table.
United opened the scoring in the 25th minute when skipper Bruno Fernandes finished with a weak shot after Casemiro’s strong pressing won possession high up the pitch. However, Wolves responded at the very end of the first half, grabbing an unlikely equaliser when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde struck seconds before the interval, making it 1–1 at the break.
The turning point arrived early in the second half. Just after the restart, Manchester United regained the lead through Bryan Mbeumo, who slotted home Diogo Dalot’s pass after a slick counter-attack. United’s momentum continued as Mason Mount extended the advantage in the 62nd minute, expertly finishing after connecting with a smartly chipped ball from Bruno Fernandes.
With the game increasingly under their control, United sealed the emphatic win late on. A handball by Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera in the box led to a penalty, and Fernandes confidently converted from the spot to make it 4–1.

The result moves Manchester United up to sixth place in the Premier League, tied in points with 5th-placed Chelsea, putting them firmly back in the mix for European qualification. Their strong second-half performance highlighted their attacking depth and tactical flexibility under pressure.
The defeat adds to a season of struggles for Wolverhampton. The Midlands side remains rooted at the bottom of the table with just two points, having now lost eight consecutive league matches. Fan unrest was evident at Molineux, with protests against club ownership overshadowing an evening of frustration on the pitch. After the fourth goal, some fans couldn’t continue watching.
Wolves now face an uphill battle to save their season and prevent a seemingly guaranteed relegation.
