Turkey, 31 December 2025 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Ankara will continue providing critical support to Somalia in developing a strong security force capable of protecting the country's sovereignty and securing its territorial borders.
President Erdoğan made the remarks during a joint press conference with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held at the Presidential Palace in Istanbul, on Tuesday, following a closed-door meeting between the two heads of state.
“We have clearly demonstrated our solidarity with Somalia by providing training and military equipment to the Somali National Army at the TURKSOM Military Training Facility,” Erdoğan said. “We are pleased to see that Somali forces have achieved tangible successes in the fight against terrorism in recent times. Progress in the security sector has also paved the way for political reform efforts in Somalia.”
The Turkish president noted that 2026 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Somalia, stressing that Turkey will continue to support Somalia’s security and stability.

Commenting on Israel's recognition of Somaliland, President Erdoğan said Turkey will spare no effort in protecting Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Protecting Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity, under all circumstances, is our top priority. Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland is illegal and cannot be accepted,” he said.
President Erdoğan noted that Turkey’s ongoing activities and projects in Somalia will significantly contribute to the prosperity of the Somali people, reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to further strengthening its military, security, and strategic support for Somalia.
