omalia, 27 December 2025 In light of Israel’s official recognition of Somaliland’s independence, the breakaway region’s government has declared Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28, 2025, as public holidays. This decision comes as part of national celebrations marking a historic step in Somaliland's quest for international recognition.
The Somaliland Civil Service Commission confirmed that, in line with a decree from the President, all government employees will be granted a two-day holiday. The agency has informed ministries and government bodies to ensure employees are notified and work will be suspended during the designated days.
The Chairman of the Civil Service Agency, speaking on behalf of the agency and the broader government workforce, extended congratulations to the people of Somaliland both at home and in the diaspora. "On behalf of the Civil Service Agency and all government employees, I offer our congratulations to the people of Somaliland, our employees, their families, and loved ones. This recognition marks a monumental achievement, and we hope this historic success is celebrated with pride and joy," he said.
